Where can I get Pregnancy/Maternity Supplement Insurance?

Question by herro: Where can I get Pregnancy/Maternity Supplement Insurance?
I am not pregnant at this moment but am planning to in the near future. I currently have a private insurance (not through employer) and it does not cover maternity benefits. So I am wondering where I can buy this maternity/pregnancy supplement insurance I have heard of?

Call the company you have insurance with and ask about adding a maternity rider.

This question depends strongly on your state. Insurance rules vary widely. Also be aware that you will most likely have a waiting period. Typically, you will have had to have the rider for several months to a year until your coverage goes into effect. So, get this sorted out ASAP, so you can get a policy in place so that you don't have to wait too long.

In my state, these waiting periods are typically 9-12 months.
