Q&A: Can I get maternity insurance once I become pregnant if I don't already have it?

Question by jacknchloe: Can I get maternity insurance once I become pregnant if I don't already have it?
I currently only have major medical coverage incase something should happen to me major. I don't have coverage to see the doctor if I get sick or prescription coverage. What would happen if I should become pregnant? Can I get maternity coverage once I become pregnant of do I have to have it before?

Most insurance companies don't consider pregnancy a preexisting condition so you should be able to add it to your current insurance plan but I would call ahead of time and talk to them about it and see what they say. It's best to be informed before you actually have to do it.
